Artists statement

If you have preconceptions about embroidery, these images might surprise you.

I studied weaving and screen-printing in London, followed by a 4 year creative embroidery course, subsequently specialising in stitched textiles.

I have refined the technique over a number of years. The end result is produced in several stages. I often take my inspiration from nature and focus on the use of natural fabrics, which I dye and then paint with the suggestion of an image. I further develop this with the use of appliquéd materials, embellished with hand and machine embroidery, beading etc. The finished pieces can be rich in texture and colour, or sometimes more subtle, depending on the subject matter. I currently have a particular interest in seed pods, undergrowth, leaves and grasses.

My work is supported by private collectors and also includes various commissions for display in public places.

I am based in Chichester, West Sussex, UK. Please contact me via the Contact page.
